Now the so called recession is have said to hit us, but logically everyone who has some certain skill set and the ability to go out independent has nothing to worry about.
for e.g. if you were the one who lived through his/her degree thinking that you'll finally get placed, then you're in trouble...
but if you have some skill, at least one skill, say you can develop a website then you're safe...why?
let me explain...
who has to worry about regular money flowing in?
some who has expenses, and not normal expenses but liabilities to pay off....who is that ?
that are big companies, huge companies, who have salaries to pay, bills to pay, ad campaigns to maintain and lot of other expenses.
so there are not jobs there anymore, or lesser jobs at big places.
now think about the smaller guys, and i am talking really small here, small firms, with 10-100 people, but good firms.
they are getting all the business, why because everyone is looking for a cheaper option, the basic example is Times of India who for its recent campaign went to a smaller ad agency rather than their regular biggies (JWT).
so the point is, plus with the high court's decision that placements will take place in your 4th year, you have good enough time to sharpen those minds, learn a skill or two, whatever it may be, need not be essentially about your degree.
start writing and reading blogs of your interests, develop your portfolio, say if you're a cartoonist, then start a small series around your college...
and by the time graduation time comes reach out to all the small startups, you'll learn there more than you did at college...and afterwards you can do what you want...
over and out...
